In order to be a good advocate for early literacy we have to keep learning and growing.  If you would like to learn and share about the new Every Child Ready to Read program, join others at “Implementing Every Child Ready to Read community of practice.” You will just have to create an account to join.

Colorado's Lieutenant Governor Needs Your Suggestions for Improving Early Childhood Education

Colorado Lt Gov Joe Garcia is asking for you input on improving the state’s early childhood development system as well as the Race to the Top grant.  There will be meetings held throughout the state.  Read this article from the Examiner for more information on how you can participate. Hopefully, we can all help make a difference in the future of our children, and ensure that libraries are included in the plan!

SAVE THE DATE! CLEL Annual Meeting and Call for New Steering Committee Members

The CLEL Annual Meeting of the full membership will be held on Thursday, October 13 (the Thursday that CAL begins), from 8 am to 3:00 pm. We will be meeting at the Council Tree Library in Ft. Collins, CO.

More details to follow - but rest assured, the program will be full and engaging! Plus, door prizes!

Advocating for early literacy often means going out into the community.  The Ohio Ready to Read site has some great tips for reaching parents who may not be reading to their children.

Many of you are probably familiar with Johnson County (Kansas) Library's wonderful 6 by 6 early literacy program, which encourages pre-reading skills development through storytimes, parent involvement, videos, and now, activity spaces.
