SAVE THE DATE! CLEL Annual Meeting and Call for New Steering Committee Members

The CLEL Annual Meeting of the full membership will be held on Thursday, October 13 (the Thursday that CAL begins), from 8 am to 3:00 pm. We will be meeting at the Council Tree Library in Ft. Collins, CO.

More details to follow - but rest assured, the program will be full and engaging! Plus, door prizes!

Just in time for One World, Many Stories! Multicultural Songs and Rhymes

For those of us using the "One World, Many Stories" theme for our summer reading programs, and for anyone interested in learning songs and rhymes in new languages or with multilingual service populations, this new site from the Burnaby Public Library is SO useful.

New StoryBlocks Videos are Live!

Has it been a while since you visited StoryBlocks to check out the videos of songs and rhymes for young children that include literacy tips for parents? Well, it's time to go back, because we've added 6 new videos! 4 of the videos are in English, while 2 more are in Spanish. We hope you enjoy them, and share them widely with the parents and caregivers who visit your library!

If your library participates in an early literacy program that provides free books to participants, you might want to check out Third Week Books!

Third Week Books publishes books for babies and toddlers that incorporate literacy tips for parents and caregivers on every page.

Progress report on CLEL's LSTA grant project: "Building Reading Readiness"

CLEL members who were able to attend last November's annual meeting heard about the latest LSTA grant project we are working on, which is to create a website with videos of rhymes/fingerplays and songs with early literacy tips.  Patricia Froehlich, Youth Services Senior Consultant with the Colorado State Library, has submitted this report on CLEL's progress on the grant so far:

A Colorado Storytime

A Read Aloud for Children and Parents

"A Colorado Storytime: Read-Aloud For Children and Parents" is a one-hour DVD video produced by Friends of Food For Thought. It features guest readers reading books by Colorado authors, illustrators, and publishers, in English and Spanish. Free copies (one per address) for nonprofits and childcare centers are available as supplies permit!
