Getting the Word Out

CLEL Call for Presenters

Do you want to present at the CLEL Conference this year?  We are now accepting proposals for presenters.  We would love to see what you are doing at your library and what creative things you have to teach the CLEL constituents about early literacy.  Click here to fill out the proposal form.

Call for CLEL Steering Committee members

We are looking for enthusiastic CLEL members who are interested in becoming Steering Committee members. Steering Committee members have had a chance to spread their wings, add to professional networks, and take on new challenges in their library careers, while making a positive difference in early literacy efforts across Colorado. CLEL has many more ideas for the future-and you could be one of the people to put those plans in action!

Volunteer for the CLEL Conference

Are you attending the 2014 CLEL Conference?

If so, you might be interested in being a Conference Assistant.

What is a Conference Assistant, you ask?  A Conference Assistant greets a presenter and makes sure the presenter has everything she or he needs.  If the presenter needs anything, the Conference Assistant will find the right person to help out.

Being a Conference Assistant is a fun and meaningful way to be more involved in the CLEL Conference.

Texting and Early Learning

A recent study at Stanford, explored whether texting early learning activities to parents could help decrease the "word gap."  The initial results show that it does help.  It gives parents a tap on the shoulder reminder to do fun things that promote learning.  Text messages included:

Write the alphabet on paper

Make a letter puzzle

Earlier is Easier

Denver Public Library is partnering with agencies around the metro area to create a capital campaign entitled Earlier is Easier!  Partners include CLEL, Bright Beginnings, Reach Out and Read and many more.  The campaign is focused on getting the word out about the importance of early learning.  Eventually, they hope to have everything from tip cards to billboards.

Request for Proposals for Summer Reading White Paper

The Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) has issued a request for proposals (RFP) for a literature review, meta-analysis, and white paper on the value of library summer reading programs. Please forward this to anyone you think might be interested.
