One Book 4 Colorado Press

Police Officers Create "Mini Libraries"

The police in Holyoke, Massachusetts are embarking on a new program.  They will have books at all of their police substations and in the police vehicles.  The police officers will give books to children when they are at the police station or when they meet them on the streets.  This will help bolster the city's early literacy campaign.  They have a goal to have all 3rd graders reading at grade level by 2014.  I am really impressed with this program.  What a great way to get kids connected with "helpers" in their community as well as provide something beneficial

ECRR 2 Spanish Materials

The Every Child Ready to Read Part 2 manual is being released in Spanish this summer.  They also have brochures, bookmarks and posters for you to order as well.  Take advantage of these materials so be can continue to build literacy in our communities.  All the materials are available here.

The CLEL Conference 2013 will be held on Friday, September 13, 8:30-4:30 at the First Plymouth Congregational Church on 3501 S. Colorado Blvd., Englewood, CO 80113.

Celebrate Dr. Seuss

In honor of Dr. Seuss and Read Across America Day, I would like to introduce everyone to Seussville!  Not only does this site have information about Dr. Seuss' books, but it also has great videos, games and activities for kids and teachers.  You can learn about the world of Dr. Seuss and have a great interactive time doing it.  I hope everyone has a great Dr. Seuss Day!

Read Across America Day- Mar 2nd

It's almost time for Read Across America Day!  It will be celebrated on Saturday, March 2nd.  Seussville and ReadAcrossAmerica.org both have some great information and resources for you.  This is always a great day to celebrate reading, books and of course Dr. Seuss.  I hope you all celebrate the day in the best way you know how, sharing books with children.
