Crochety children's book writer Maurice Sendak explains how he feels about the current state of children's books (hates it!) and celebrities writing for kids. This is pt. 2 of an interview with Stephen Colbert of the Colbert Report. Enjoy!
Are you a sci-fi nerd? Want to share a bit of nostalgia with your little one? Then this book is for you! Experience all the awesomeness that is Star Trek with your child. See Spock as "calm" and Kirk "surprised." All the images are from the original episodes. I hope your library has a copy for you to enjoy!
Did you know that the Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats was published 50 years ago? No? Neither did I! But I guess it MUST be true, as I'm almost 41 and I LOVED the book as a child.
For your Friday fun today, we bring you a little nostalgia: remember Muppet Babies? In this episode, our heroes find themselves in a nursery without toys (*gasp!*). Nanny brings in a box of books, but the babies can't yet read! What will they do? Kermit knows the answer, and it's right out of one of our early literacy trainings!
This is part 1. Links below the video are for parts 2 and 3:
Boy, Dianne de las Casas has been busy lately! First, she creates Picture Book Month, that we are currently celebrating (remember last week's Friday Funday?). Now, she's created a website where we can watch book trailers for kids' books. Become a member, and you can upload videos too, or join groups and discuss them!
Have you ever wanted to re-do a kids' book cover? Have you ever looked at an old, but well-loved title, and thought "wow, I'm sure I could get more kids to read this if they just updated the cover!"? Well, Uncovered Cover Art allows artists to do just that. Artists submit their re-imagined covers of well-known children's books and not only do we get to enjoy them, but the artists might have their art seen by a publishing house!
