Many of you are probably familiar with Johnson County (Kansas) Library's wonderful 6 by 6 early literacy program, which encourages pre-reading skills development through storytimes, parent involvement, videos, and now, activity spaces.

Distribute early literacy handouts at storytime, other programs, and in your brochure rack. Multiple copies of two excellent handouts, Reading Tips for Parents and Ready? Set? You are an early literacy advocate if you: Give handouts to parents during storytime.
Handouts provide a tangible reminder of visiting the library, let the parents check out books they liked from storytime, and are an opportunity to provide low key early literacy tips.
