The Association of Library Service to Children is looking for people to advocate for early literacy and libraries, as well as libraries that have a relationship with their local Head Start programs. Please read this message from ALSC Executive Director, Aimee Strittmatter, and respond directly to her if you are interested.:
ALSC is working with the ALA Washington Office and we need your assistance to ensure libraries are at the table when the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and legislators discuss funding early literacy initiatives.
We’d like to build an early literacy contact list that we can use to disseminate information and opportunities to work with HHS grantees, Head Start programs, and other state officials. This contact person would work as a liaison, helping to get information out in his/her state.
If you are not your state’s youth library consultant, but are willing to advocate for libraries and early literacy in your state, I’d love to receive your contact information.
Additionally, we are seeking information about libraries who have a formal relationship with their local Head Start. If you are or know of a library system working with their Head Start, we’d like to know:
1) Name of Library (include city and state)
2) Contact Person
3) Description of Head Start partnership/relationship
4) How long the relationship has been in existence
5) Future plans
6) Any special success or impact stories
Thank you very much in advance!
Best,
Aimee Strittmatter, Executive Director
