CLEL Committees and Work Teams

To request assistance from the CLEL Committees, suggest ideas, or to get involved with any projects, please contact Carol Wagstaff at clelorg@gmail.com!

Advocacy Committee

The Advocacy Committee assists public libraries and community partners as they work to promote early literacy. It looks for ways to encourage public libraries to provide early literacy awareness and programming as an important service to their patrons and the wider community that they serve. The committee gathers and creates advocacy resources for the CLEL website, and partners with other state and national agencies on literacy initiatives. Nancy Maday is the chair.

Training Committee

The Training Committee, led by Lori Romero, focuses on providing resources, training opportunities, and personal support for librarians and staff engaged in offering (or interested in launching) early literacy programs and services at their libraries. The committee gathers and creates training resources for the CLEL website, and has been deeply involved in both of our LSTA grant projects.

Membership Committee

The Membership Committee solicits and welcomes new members and maintains the CLEL membership list. The committee works to foster relationships and networking among CLEL members across the state, and plans and hosts the Annual Membership meeting at the CAL Conference each fall. Susan Oakes oversees this group.

Communications Committee

The Communications Committee maintains, updates, and expands the CLEL website, works with the other committees to gather resources for the website, and supervises the CLEL blog. Under the direction of Mary Kuehner, it manages the publicity for and promotion of CLEL and its work, including CLEL's presence on Facebook and Twitter.
