A Colorado Storytime

A Read Aloud for Children and Parents

"A Colorado Storytime: Read-Aloud For Children and Parents" is a one-hour DVD video produced by Friends of Food For Thought. It features guest readers reading books by Colorado authors, illustrators, and publishers, in English and Spanish. Free copies (one per address) for nonprofits and childcare centers are available as supplies permit!

Friends of Food For Thought knows children’s path to success in reading begins at birth, when then can begin to learn to love reading and books. Parents and caregivers are critical in the literacy equation because their actions and encouragement every day can make the difference in children’s literacy. Kids learn by example and they imitate their heroes.

Sharing books with babies and children is fun! Anyone can share a book—a parents, a grandparent, a brother or sister, a babysitter, a friend. When you read and talk to children, you help their brains grow--just like you help their bodies grow when you feed them good food.

A Colorado Storytime helps by providing examples of read-alouds as a model for readers. A Colorado Storytime contains:

  • Sixty minutes of children’s books, read out loud
  • Literacy tips for parents and caregivers
  • A diverse collection of Colorado readers
  • A variety of types of short books, in English and Spanish, with colorful pictures
  • Books related in some way to Colorado, either by publisher, author, illustrator or theme.

A Colorado Storytime can be “looped” for continual play-back, and is perfect for preschools, parent training and events, health clinics, pediatricians’ offices, childcare centers, public schools, libraries, office or home locations. The inside the jacket has more early childhood literacy information.
