For those of us using the "One World, Many Stories" theme for our summer reading programs, and for anyone interested in learning songs and rhymes in new languages or with multilingual service populations, this new site from the Burnaby Public Library is SO useful. Created as part of their "Embracing Diversity" project, it contains videos of songs and rhymes in fifteen (yes, FIFTEEN!) languages, including Hindi, Russian, Mandarin, and Arabic. Rather than being translations of traditional English-language songs or rhymes, these are rhymes that the performers remember learning as children in their native countries. While you can watch and listen to the performer sing the song, you can also read the lyrics phonetically as well as an English translation. I also like that you learn a little bit about the performer.
Thank you, Burnaby Public Library, for providing us with this amazing resource!
