New Publication for Early Literacy Storytime Presenters Coming Out in October

One of the greatest challenges with Early Literacy Storytimes is getting comfortable talking to parents and caregivers about the six Early Literacy Skills.  Saroj Nadkarni Ghoting, an Early Childhood Literacy Consultant and Dr. Betsy Diamant-Cohen, an Early Childhood Specialist in Baltimore, have teamed together to write a new book that addresses this issue.  Entitled, The Early Literacy Kit: A Handbook and Tip Cards, this resource is designed to help storytime staff talk more comfortably with parents and caregivers.  The kit includes a basic 32 page handbook with resource section, 105 reusable tip cards with coordinated activities and a concise summary of important early literacy research.  The cost is $50.00 and can be ordered from the ALA store or Amazon.com.  Due out in October 2009.

In addition, CLEL is presenting a workshop on this same topic at the Colorado Association of Libraries (CAL) Conference on Friday, November 20th at 10:15 am.  This session is entitled, Reaching Children's First Teachers: How to Present Early Literacy Tips to Parents and Caregivers.  To find out more about this conference go to http://www.cal-webs.org/conference.html.

New book is one we need

This is a great thing to come along. I can't tell you how many people totally want to give parent's the messages, but hesitate because they don't think of themselves as experts. Great news.
