Mary recently posted a blog entry about a study on making one small change when reading to preschoolers helps with early literacy skills. Now, NPR has done a story about the study. The study states that if parents and teachers point to the print and ask questions about the print, children become more aware of what the adult is reading. NPR did a great job of giving background information on what teachers are currently doing and what small changes, according to the study, would help the children learn more. They also make the point that getting all preschool teachers to try this method is very difficult as preschool teachers have a wide array of training. Listen or read the story over at NPR.
