Busy Buzzy Bugs is a program developed for the Fort Collins Regional Library District's Summer Reading Program 2008. It was based on Mother Goose Olympics, a preschool activity idea in circulation, but adapted to reflect the theme of Catch the Reading Bug @ your library.
12 activity stations based on nursery rhymes and songs were set up around the room in no particular order. Children could go to any station they liked and do the activity with their parents. Each activity reinforced one or more of the ECRR six early literacy skills. As they entered the room, families were given a booklet listing the words to the rhymes and songs, so parents could help the child repeat them when they went home. At each station, they received a bug sticker for their booklets.
Here are the instructions and the booklet for this program. Please feel free to use and adapt these materials to hold a similar program at your library; please credit the Fort Collins Regional Library District if you do!
