CLEL's existence has made huge strides for the Early Literacy efforts in Colorado. Our conference has helped educate librarians who have in turn educated parents and caregivers. Our Storyblocks videos help bring songs and fingerplays into the homes of children around the world. Our efforts help to support those made by schools to ensure that children are appropriately prepared to enter Kindergarten.
This study was shared this past November regarding Colorado and where it falls in several categories pertaining to Early Literacy Indicators. Colorado's scores vary widely, but overall, there is still work to be done. As we head into 2016, I think it's important to reflect on the work that has already been done in these efforts, particularly those done through the CLEL organization. Storyblocks, the CLEL Conference, and our relationship with Earlier is Easier are just a few of the many ways CLEL impacts the community. While there is still work to be done, we can appreciate all we have done to arrive at this point.
Our work, however, is not yet done. There are more children to reach, more parents and caregivers with whom to connect, and more growth to be made. By this time next year, the scores in this study will have improved as the village of Early Literacy leaders continues to spread its message. I hope you are as inspired as I am by the work that we do every day - it is critical to each individual child and it will serve to benefit society as a whole.
Happy New Year!
