CLEL—Colorado Libraries for Early Literacy— supports staff involved in early literacy across Colorado through a variety of projects, and we’re adding a new way this summer! This week, CLEL will send packages for each public and military library location in Colorado filled with magnets promoting Storyblocks , along with one colorful poster and 50 bookmarks promoting the 2016 CLEL Bell Picture Book Award winners! The posters are a great way to share the 2016 CLEL Bell winners with parents and caregivers in your library, and the bookmarks and magnets are handy reminders for parents of these excellent early literacy resources. Please also be aware that while the CLEL Bells posters say "2015 Winners" the books listed are indeed the 2016 titles. We will be sending a fix for the posters as soon as possible and will be keeping you informed.
Storyblocks is a collection of 30-60 second videos designed to model to parents, caregivers, and library staff some songs, rhymes, and fingerplays appropriate for early childhood. Each video clip includes helpful early literacy tips to increase caregivers’ understanding of child development and pre-literacy needs. If you haven’t looked at it recently, CLEL added 6 new videos last month—check ‘em out!
The CLEL Bell Picture Book Awards are an annual recognition of five high-quality picture books that provide excellent support of early literacy development in young children.
If you’re not already a member of CLEL, please join this one-of-a-kind organization; it’s free! Click here to join today. And please save the date for the 2016 CLEL Conference on September 9 in Lakewood; the schedule and registration will be available soon on the CLEL website.
Thanks so much; we hope these new resources for CLEL will be useful to promote early literacy in your communities.
