It's hard to believe that it's April. Even harder still to believe that One Book 4 Colorado is just around the corner! To celebrate this great event, we thought it would be fun to look back and present some fast facts about the program that can be shared during this year's events!
1: This is the 6th year of this amazing program! Maybe a Bear Ate it was the very first OB4CO book back in 2012!
2: OB4CO gives away over 75,000 copies of the same book each year- it's also made available in English and in Spanish.
3: Research shows that children in low-income families tend to have fewer books in their homes and are exposed to 30 million fewer words before the age of four than their higher-income peers. One Book 4 Colorado aims to close this vocabulary gap by getting a book into the home of every four-year-old in Colorado and fostering a culture of reading.
4: In order to be considered as a OB4CO title, the book must meet the following criteria:
be an exceptional book for 4-year-olds
available in English and Spanish
be published by a publisher that has the ability to create and ship 75,000 paperback copies of the title for the program with a custom imprint
5. After titles are submitted and reviewed, a panel of Colorado librarians and educators choose three titles which they then allow the public to vote on!
This year is the most exciting yet- libraries around the state are receiving their books and sitting on the biggest secret in town: Which book will it be! We hope you are enjoying the anticipations as much as we are!
