Meet the Colorado Day By Day Calendar

You may have noticed the newest addition to CLEL's website - the Colorado Day By Day Calendar. Let me introduce you to this fabulous resource. This calendar was created by the Colorado State Library's Growing Readers Together project to help promote early literacy on a daily basis and is full of great ideas. The inspiration came from the South Carolina State Library’s calendar of the same name.

Cover of Colorado Day by Day Calendar shows a chipmunk reading a book to other woodland animals.

Every day of the calendar has a different early literacy activity. This means that you have a new partner in your early literacy adventure: a calendar that is just overflowing with suggestions. There's everything you can imagine; from singing the ABCs to writing poems together. Each activity is easy to do and can easily start discussions or lead to a theme for your entire day.

Each month has an early literacy theme and suggested books to go with it; February is Colors month! One of the suggested books for the month is I Ain't Gonna Paint No More! by Karen Beaumont. Beyond the suggested activity for the day, you can also check out a copy of this book from your local library and read it together - as well as any of the other suggested books about colors.

To request a calendar, please fill out this form. The calendar is also available in Spanish and you can request a Spanish copy here.

You can also print your own copy of the calendar from the CLEL website, or just keep the page bookmarked so you can return to it for great early literacy exercises to do with your little one or suggest to your customers. Another way to experience the calendar is to follow Growing Readers Together on Facebook.
