An Academic Library at CLEL 2019
This is the third in a series of blog posts contributed by CLEL members who received scholarships to attend our 2019 conference.
This was my second year attending the CLEL conference, and once again I returned home full of excitement and ideas. The librarians at my table for the opening were from High Plains, JeffCo and Weld libraries. Two were presenting and excited about the day at hand. The keynote speaker, Dr. Dipesh Navsaria, is a true advocate for literacy and children. His presentation was inspiring, humorous and thought provoking. I could not stop singing his praises to my co-workers.
I truly enjoyed my first session Factual Fun for Everyone with Cassandra Bland. Cassandra was a knowledgeable presenter. She powered through the session of nonfiction books with the ease of an experienced librarian. Her easy going style of blending yoga and storytelling sounds absolutely delightful. Engaging little ones with stories, movement and learning is an asset to any youth services program.
The Pueblo Community College Library has implemented a once per month pre-school story time in collaboration with our Early Childhood Education faculty and the public library youth services storytellers. We hope that it will provide our ECE students with some great mentoring and a learning environment for them. My role is to facilitate the storytellers and build our ECE collection for students and faculty to use.
I am grateful to have been able to attend CLEL and look forward to many future attendances.
